AEROSMITH Will Make 'Old-School' Record, Says Drummer

AEROSMITH drummer Joey Kramer tells Spinner that he and the rest of his bandmates are planning on releasing a new studio album in 2011. "I would like to see a record within a year from the AEROSMITH boys," he says. "My brothers and I are destined to make another record in the next year or so.

"It's going to be an old-school AEROSMITH record," Kramer continues. "We're going to do it the old way with the whole band [in the same room] and it should be a good one. We're all anticipating."

"It's good for everybody to be back in the thick of things again," Kramer says. "The band is playing great now, so it's a good time and everything is good." Following the final date in September, the plan was to first take a rest and "do whatever we've got to do individually, whatever that might be. Then we'll all convene to do a record."

AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry seems to have gotten over his initial dismay about bandmate Steven Tyler's new gig as a judge on the upcoming season of "American Idol". Perry told Spinner, "Steven wants to spend time in L.A. and do this. He's always talked about doing stuff like that and I think he wants to try his hand at that. Let him go at it. That's an interesting endeavor. I hope he's really happy doing it."

That's a far cry from Perry's feelings back in September, when he told the Calgary Herald that "Idol" was "one step above ('Teenage Mutant') 'Ninja Turtles' . . . I'll tell you one thing, when we put this band together, this is not something that (Steven Tyler) would do."

Although Perry has said that AEROSMITH's future is uncertain with Tyler joining the show, he doesn't think the band has played its last gig, saying, "I know that the band will always somehow put something together and play, whether it's two or three weeks out on the road and playing this or that or some charity stuff. I do not think this band is going to see its last show, that's how I feel."

The guitarist himself plans to keep busy while Tyler does his TV stint, saying, "I want to be able to get out there and do different things. Now is now and I'm tired of waiting around, so I'm not passing up anything right now."

AEROSMITH wrapped up a summer tour in mid-September, shortly after the news broke about Tyler's "Idol" gig.

Plans for the group to record a new album following the tour are on hold, although Tyler has said he can handle both jobs.

Tyler's acceptance of the "Idol" job capped a turbulent 12-month period for the group during which a stage injury to Tyler led to a canceled tour, a trip to rehab for the singer, and threats by the rest of the band to find a new vocalist.
